Was doing a partial water change when I saw several of these little guys in the gravel. They are about a quarter of an inch and look just like some of the tetras I have in there. The gravel is large so they were able to hide in it.

While they arent tetras, I had a pair of Rosy Barbs breed long ago in a tank I no longer have setup. There was an undergravel filter in the tank, and one day I found a small Rosy Barb around an inch long in one of the tubes. What must have happened is that he lived in darkness and survived by eating his siblings 
and nothing but his siblings His gill plates were mutated, and I noticed that he was a very aggressive barb. That is, until a breeding pair of convicts tore 'im to bits... he was just to damn aggressive for the cummunity tank... 
The moral of the story is that fish fry can survive against all odds.
