hey all

I have a 250L tank with
2 Pearl gourami's
7 penguin tetra
4 swortail
1 fire mouth cichlid
1 earth-eater cichlid
And 1 feather-fin catfish

I'm looking at getting one pair of krib cichlids and wondering if they will work in this tank?
And if the pearl gourami's with be okay with them?

thx jason

Can't see why they wouldn't be ok in the tank. I had a pair of kribs in a 200 litre with gold gourami and opaline gourami. Also had five banded barbs, a BN plec and bronze corys.

The only time my kribs were aggressive was when they were breeding. Then they ruled the tank. When not breeding they were very peaceful and didn't bother any of the other fish

Pearls gourami are considered more peaceful gouramis so they would be fine together IMO

Hopefully the pearls being mainly top level fish will keep them out of harms way when the kribs breed (it's not an if, it's a when!).

The thing to consider though if you're set on getting a pair is where you are going to offload the fry. Kribs are one of the easiest dwarf cichlids to breed and so most pet shops won't take them as they already have plenty, or if they do, they won't take a whole batch of fry and you'll get nothing for it.

Considering too that they will breed every 2-3 months and can have hundreds of fry a time means problems. It's like having guppies again, except the parent kribs protect their young so they can't just be a tasty snack for the other fish.

Perhaps consider getting 2 females instead of a pair. Then the aggression problems and the issue of many fry will be resolved.
