A little tip here,
The silver shark idea is a no no...they get way way too big. (I have seen these personally on a show bench)
The CAE is an even bigger no no... they are nice when they are young 65mm or less but they too get very large and become a complete nightmare. they dig into the gravel and suck onto the sides of your fish and leave great big laiserations. more trouble than they are worth.

is there a different kind of algae eater that i could get? and the silver shark is one of the fish ive kept previously they seemed so nice i thought i could add it in this one oh well...

Do a little research on biotopes which will give you some ideas on future fish stocking and planting plans.
I am all for keeping fish from the same area/geographical locations (as far as possible) in community tanks. That way you have no conflicting water quality/consistancy issues

Southern African Swamp is the biotope im looking for it includes tetras, killifish, rainbowfish, loaches and catfish and ive reconfigured my aquarium community too it includes
bristlenose pelco: 1
rainbowfish: 2
blue panchax killifish: 3
congo tetra: 3
kuhlii loach: 2
bolivian ram cichlid: 2

Hi,
S.A. Swamp
Well in that case Rainbowfish do not come from Africia likewise neither do Bolivian Rams, blue panchax are from around India
If you wish to go down the biotope route then take a look at the following link.

There are many fish in each biotope that will not get along and a little research is needed. Although this is pretty indepth, I feel in the long run will provide you with a greater understanding of your charges.
Please dont take my comments above the wrong way, I'm just trying to give you some honest advice.
With biotopes you can structure your fish stocking (be aware of compatability issues also) and planting to suit that particular area you are trying to replicate all be it to your own design.

must have had run into a bad site (they pop up every now and again) thanks for the link its helped heaps the indonesian biotope is the one im going to center my community around so far ive found a few things im going to get they are (i hope ive got it right)
blue panchax killifish: 4
molly (introduced): 3
kuhlii loach: 2
bristlenose catfish: 2
rainbowfish of some kind: 2

As far as I know both kuhli loaches and rainbow fish like to be in groups, so you should think about 4-5 at least of each species
i havnt had a reply to this topic since the last post ive long forgotten this community my new one is:
fundulopanchax gardneri: 3
platy: 2
sailfin molly: 2 or blue ram: 2
harlequin rasboras: 6
golden pencilfish: 4
Bn pleco: 2
i am aware of the specialitys for these fish from posting many topics to find them right now im trying to find what plants to have in thered with them
kingofthepisces
EDIT: i have 2 kuhlii loaches and they happily share there little cave together ive never seen any fish happier than those two (apart from my blue panchax at feeding time!!)
