I just got a juwel rio 180 and set it up last night. I was wondering weather the filter should be making more movement on the waters surface as it is hardly moving and i have the nozzle as near as it can to the waters surface? Does anyone elsa have a juwel filter? Where on the filter does the muck get sucked in?
Cheers, Joemuz

the standard filter that coem with the tank are crap if u want my advice take it our and replace it witha real filter

I like it, and i cant need a lean as i only set it up last night.
Do you put all the filter media that comes with it in? and do the white thin pads go in or above the white filter media rack thing?
Cheers, Joemuz

At the top through the grills (as pictured here).

Correctly set up, no, there shouldn't be much surface aggetation.
I'm personally not a fan of these filters and I feel they don't perform well on tanks with messy fish (i.e. most catfish or fish that are heavy waste producers - most average live bearers).
However, they are said to be really good for planted tanks.

My suggestion would be to stay away from the carbon and nitrate sponges (the black and the green). And just stick to the blue ones. The fine ones go in the bottom, the coarse ones on top and a single white filter floss pad on the very top (also in the basket under the little handles).

Hope that helps.

Well, don't put all the white sponges in in one go. There are 5 in a box I think. Just one. And the white ones I threw away each week because they got too dirty to just rinse out. So in the bottom basket 2 fine blue sponges, then in the next basket up, 2 coarse sponges + the white filter pad. That's it.

Clean the impellor on a regular basis (you need to take the whole filter head apart for this) because they have a nasty habit of clogging up with sludge and then slows the flow right down. Also make sure that you keep the shafts (dead space) at the bottom back clean (stick a siphon down there) every now and again. Because gunk just builds up in there.
