I bought a JBJ 12 nano cube! That was the first mistake, well actually I really like the tank but I've had to do some modding to get it ready for my purposes! mostly trying to find where to install a heater and a CO2 injector! Once that was done I added live plants (for the second time) the first time I put them in the tanks reef strength lighting system gave me a nasty algae infestation! well I wanted this plant that the LFS was growing, don't know the scientific word for it but they called it guppy grass, I bought a clump and put it in my tank!

The problem is that it swirls around in the current till it tangles on the rockwork and other plants then it sprouts roots which overnight grow down to the substrate and anchor the plant giving a carpeting effect!

Well the free floating plants kept getting stuck against the filter intake on the tank so I stupidly thought to use the included surface skimmer to keep this from happening! But while I was out on Saturday my two brand new Gudgeons decided to jump over the skimmer and got stuck in the little box behind it! One died and the other is hurt but seems to be on the mend!

Basically I've taken the long route in telling you all to never use the surface skimmer unless you have these tanks set up as reefs! Small fish will get trapped behind them and die! I should have realised this before I did it but I didn't!

Just thought I'd pass along the heads up for others who may be considering a nano cube!

Yes they are intended to be primarily for mini reef setups. However I did a lot of research and found tons who said they are ideal for live plants because of the large amounts of light that one of these tanks puts out! I primarily wanted to have a planted tank, but also wanted to be able to have the option of having a nano reef in the future! this is why I bought the tank! plus I got a great deal on it!

I don't mean to bring down the tank its self, I've been very pleased with it overall! Much better than anyother setup I've had!

Why do you put a "!" at the end of all your sentences? Doesn't really bother me, we all have....strange....quirks. Wow that was random....

Wow, just noticed that myself. That's really embarrasing, I guess I was just trying to emphasize what I wrote but I didn't notice that every sentence ended with an exclamation.

Look I ended all my sentences with periods this time. Another strange quirk.
