The last few days my normally light-phobic Plec has been coming out of hiding during the day. He doesn't come out for just a minute or two - he comes out for awhile. He swims around and cleans off the sides of the tanks and cleans off the plants, etc. Now, I was under the impression that Plecs were nocturnal and didn't like to come out in the light. Is it normal for him to be spending time out of his hide-out when it's light?

I wouldnt worry, they do lose their shyness pretty quick when they realize theres food to be had during the day and no birds around to annoy them!
Mine usually loaf around under the bogwood but come out for a quick tank inspection after the bloodworm goes in and the fish start to settle down again.
I think this is what adds a certain charachter to them, they only come out when THEY want, and though they seem anti-social at first it gives youa little bit of excitement when they decide to grace you with their prescence!
My Gibbiceps plec came out when I had people over and strutted his stuff like he was on a catwalk the other day, I felt a tinge of pride over how fascinating they thought he was!

My pleco also decides to come out during the day sometimes. Most days I see him at least once or twice. Especially after feeding time too. So I think it's pretty normal.
