Hi!
I have been fishkeeping for about 7 months now, used the same fish store for the bulk of the time and now discovered a new place that sells much more exotic verieties! I'm not going to go marine for a few years as I'm not confident enough to spend all that money just for the poor lil things to be uncomfortable!
ANYWAY.. they have armoured shrimps (20 pounds) and mature bamboo shrimps (7.99) there..
I have 180 Litre tank and have had a reddish young 1" bamboo shrimp in past that was gone by next morning. I feed the fish sometimes river shrimp that is GREAT to watch!
I was wondering how 3" bamboo shrimp (fully grown) and/or armoured shrimp would be in the community
at the minute I have:
3x Black mollies
1x female guppy
1x silver shark
2x Gourami
2x silver rainbows
1x gold severum
1x red betta
1x siamese flying fox
1x jullii
2 x kribensis (these are my main worry as VERY aggressive at breeding time they get eveyone over one side of tank)

I have just lost a very expensive plec that is a mystery, also some other fish are getting bulgy eyes or faces eaten off wonder who is to blame.. either kribs, severum or me for water? water seems fine i check and clean it regularly.

so yea.. shrimps? they ok in there u think?

i dont think you should have a problems but just keep an eye on them. the problem you may have is feeding them as they are filter feeder and do better in as mature aquarium. i feed mine liqui fry with a pippet and also mix up flak with a small amount of water to make a soup and use a pippette again to aim it in there direction to make sure they are gatting enough to eat

I was hoping to get some armoured shrimp for my tank when it is more mature. My tank is the same size as yours so size wise you will be keep a couple in there. If this tank has been running for 7 months there should be enough food in there for them.

I would be worried with a few of your fish eating smaller shrimp, the shark and kribs being the main problems but the armoured shrimp should be big enough to cope. The problem will be when the shrimp sheds its skin though as it would be an soft easy target. If they have enough hiding places they may be ok but £20 is quite a lot of cash for live food if it goes wrong.

yea! £20 for a feed! the severum LOVES the river shrimp!! first time we got a batch (10 for a quid!) one of them was quite decent in its size and the severum backed away (never seeing anything like it before) and half hour later.. it HUNTS THEM! it goes behind and... GULP!! got that big one caught in its throat for a while (worried sick i was) but it was fine after a few moments. the kribs are soooo territorial at breeding times! i'm thinking of getting rid of them, swap them at fish store for a green severum.
