Is Ph Really That Important

After successfully adding Kuhli Loaches, Bristlenose Catfish and Whiptail's into pH 8.2 water, I have come to the assumption that pH is not incredibly important. Opinions?

For some fish pH is important eg. discus which are regarded as sensative fish. For others, its not so important. There is an arguement that most fish have been captive bred over so many generations that pH isnt important anymore. For everyday fish I would say its more important to provide a constant pH and clean water than try and mess about with it.
However, its probably best to try and provide the optimum pH for your fish if you feel able to.

I would disagree, it depends massively on what fish you are adding really.
Also PH is a factor and not so much a scale. So if you have good water and maintain your tank with high PH your OK, but if you dont and you get ammonia, the higher the PH the more toxic the ammonia, so a small ammonia level with high pH is very very bad.

I take your point though. I think as long as you look after your fish and choose the right fish when you buy them you will be OK

ph is somewhat important, in that i think most tropical fish should be placed in a ph between 6.5 and 7.5. however, what's more important, as i've read, is a stable ph instead of a fluctuating one.

also, if ph crashes (goes to 6.0 or below), then some of your fish may die (as mine did when i neglected ph testing).

overall, i'd say that ph is somewhat important to important.

For me it depends on how you define "successfully added fish".. I could live in iraq with a 'shoot me' hat on for a while, but i might not enjoy it or indeed last that long. You never know i might be lucky
