I have a fish I bought as a baby and he's got a fin missing. It's not been bitten off it just isn't there. It's the side fin by the face. Like in finding nemo where he has a small fin on one side. Anyway my fish as only one on one side. He seems to swim about ok. Will it be a problem do you think?

He's a killifish and I've taken to calling him Nemo now because of his missing fin, he's so cute.

how old is the fish now? we had a goldfish from a spawning about eight years ago that had no fin like you said. he survived a little while but not as long as his siblings who are still alive today

Meet Lefty- born in my tank and it was a while before I noticed there was a missing pectoral. Lefty is now in with 14 others plus two wild caughts some 2+ years later. I assume that the fin was lost due to injury rather a birth defect. However, I can't say for sure.

Lefty is on the lower right- these are many of his current tankmates:

I don't know I've had him about 2 weeks and he was a baby when I got him.

Lefty is cute and I love the name.

I had a white cloud minnow lacking a tail fin, called him Stumpy, he lasted for years. Swam a bit erratically sometimes but had no problems feeding etc. I'm sure Nemo will do fine.

I have a black tetra which somehow either through attack or self inflicted ended up with about 15% of its underside gettin really messed up, infected and then falling off. looks like he has had a nip tuck. Even after this he remains the last black tetra standing after 3 years and a group of 10 :)

he too is called stumpy :D

Is his name "Nemo"?

I've got a Female Betta named Cache who I've had for a few months. She got into a scrap and had half of one of her pectoral fins torn off on the one side. She now has a fin similar to nemo, one side much larger than the injured side. She still has no difficulty swimming and is currently the alpha in my tank. She has no trouble getting around, and I expect her to live a long life with me.
