Is my cory OK?

Hi all
Now the algae eater is gone the previously bullied swordtail is making splendid progress I have recently bought an albino cory and I need to know if it is insane or normal for a cory!! It spends alot of its time swimming backwards and forwards mid-tank at the front glass. I know I'm a newbie, but I thought it was a bottom dweller?? Any advice on offer? cool_jool

I think the behaviour is fairly normal. I'm only new at this too, so maybe others could help more. I think they like some company of their own kind. When i got some friends for my peppered cory, he seemed to be much happier. They're still nuts though!

Oh, and afterthought, do you have a strong current from your filter, mine love swimming against this .

Running up and down the glass is often a sign of stress - he's alone in a new tank - very stressful for him. Cories are shoaling fish - they like the company of others of the same kind. Your cory will be much happier if you can get him a few friends.

qadazobe - is that true of loaches also? If so my 3 clown loaches are stressed 24/7. But that wouldn't make sense because the are 3 of the brightest, colorful and healthy clown loaches I have seen (I might be biased ) Not to mention the smallest one still swims with my giant danios all day.

Back to the subject, these guys hit it on the head. Get 2 more and your cories will be happier than ever.

OK so now I'm a bit confused!!! Should I buy the cory a friend or not ??? I can only buy one more as I'm getting close to overcrowded. Help!! cool_jool

you should definately get him a friend , he would be much happier if he had another albino cory to play with. three together or more is ideal but i had two together, for several years and they were very happy., pebbles

Get him a couple of friends and if you're getting overcrowded, make sure that you do a water change weekly and have good filtering and you'll be ok.


Impur, I have 4 clowns and they regularly play follow-the-leader all over the tank, up and down the sides, in and out of the ornaments, through the "jungle" and where ever else they can get into. Mine are still quite young and enjoy playing around all day In this case I don't believe it's stress, just over exuberance

Hi all
I have the new albino cory. It behaves exactly as I would expect one to behave. The first one did a very touching greating with touching feelers etc . But has now gone back to its old behaviour of zooming side to side mid - water!!! The newcummer is mouching about on the bottom as I thought it would. Do I have a crazy fish or will the old one settle down?? (Old one has been in tank 1 week - new one 7 hours)

yep it's normal for a new cory to go upp and down all day cause it's stressed then the day after it would still act crazy but less, then the third day the albino cory will be a normal bottom feeder........ i had a bronze cory that needed a friend so i brought and albino cory to be her friend, some people told me not to but i didn't listen but now they're like the best buddys, or lovers? they sleep together everyday in my cave and the bronze cory follows wherever my albino goes......... it's quite cool

glad to hear that they're happy now. I cories and have 6 of them, they do a great clean up job and I love to watch them scooting around the tank then joining up with their mates to have a chin wag on what's new in their little "town"

I have 6 albino corries in my 55 gallon and they scoot up and down the front panel all day. all 6 of them and they always have. except after the eat their algae or shrimp disk, they they lay on the sand in the brightest part of the tank and bask in the light. very cute
