i have a vision 180, which comes with a built in filter, but since setting it up i have used the other smaller filter out of my old tank also, originally to transfer the bacteria over quickly, and ive never wanted to take it out, just in case and all! so does anyone think its bad to have too much filteration?

Over filtration means you can get more fish than if you under filtrate it!

there is no such thing as overfiltration, there is however the wrong kind of filtration for your particular set up.

TFH magazine did an article on this subject a few months back, perhaps someone can find it and link you to it as i can't seen to find it on their website.

To answer this question you need to know the basics of how filtration works.

Very basicly put, bacteria in the filter take harmfull amonia and transform it into less harmfull No2 and then more bacteria change No2 to No3

the amount of bacteria depends on the amount of amonia, not the amount of filters.

I think the only way you can overfilter is if the flow rate of the filter/filters is too strong for the fish you have and creates stress. Maybe that's not actually over filtering. But it could be an issue.

agreed

Still the current could be fixed with things like spray bars and deflectors etc, so if you can properly do it i dont htink that many problems can happen
