Just curious. Yesterday I neglected my fish. Not a big deal though since when I'm out of town they go about 2 days without food. I think I read somewhere that it may actually be healthy to skip a day now and again. Is this true??

many people fast their fish on a regular basis. it is supposed to be good for them. they also will keep their tank cleaner if they get hungry once in a while and start grazing on algea etc.

I personally feed once every two days, simply because i believe that a hungry fish is a healthy fish. Just don't starve them! :p

P.T.

Yes it is, I only feed once every 2-3 days anyway so it's not something I worry about but over feeding is one of the most common and most damaging mistakes a fish keeper can make IMO/IME.

I skip at least one day for all my fish and usually my ADF's though I'm trying to feed them more often. I usually cave on my Cory tank though after two or three days as I have a lot of snails and food does not go to waste in there no matter how much I put in.

I do it all the time. Last time because I needed to decrease feeding due to algae, and my fish didn't seem to mind. Now I feed my fish 3 times a week only, but then again, I don't have many fish...

If I am away for morre than 2 days should I be worried? I frequently take trips, usually on weekends, but I haven't been away for more than 3 days recently. Is 4 days pushing it? Or will they be ok? Check my sog for the fish.

I have a tank on my desk at work, so the fish go without food every weekend. There have been some irregular times that I've had a long weekend, so they've gone without food for up to 4 days. They don't seem to mind. They're always asking for food and there was no difference in their demands after the 4 day break.

I've heard up to a week will be absolutely fine. I'm positive 4 days would create no problem for you at all. Like others have said, it would probably benefit them.

Well fed fish can go 2 months without food although that's not something you'd want to try.

Just note that young fish that are still growing fast should be fed daily to keep their growth healthy. Only fullgrown and healthy fish can stay without food for over a week with no damage.

I keep a fasting day once a week for my adult fish, which seems to do them well and keeps their appetite up.

I feed my fish every other day and about once a week I let 2 days go by without feeding. So far they look ok.

I feed the betta every day.

I've left my fish for up to a week before with no food. They've been just fine :)
