Is a cannister filter supposed to be this loud?

I bought a used tank a few weeks ago, it came with a fluval 407 filter.

As far as I can tell the filter seems to be in good condition. It is was clean inside and out, started right away and the flow is good. It's a bit big for my tank so I'm running it on a low setting.

But it's pretty noisy:

Maybe I'm just oversensitive to it, but it bothers me a bit. It also occasionally makes what I could describe as a flushing/gurgling sound for a few seconds.

Is the noise in the video above normal? Maybe they are just noisy filters - though I have seen some people say they are almost silent.

I know you can buy replacement impellers etc, but I suppose there is no guarantee that will make it any quieter

That's about normal tbh and very few external filters are much quieter unless you pay extreme amounts for them and even then they are not exactly silent

I have tried externals but soon went back to using internals, the water tends to baffle the noise in my experience

As for the burping, that is probably trapped air within the filter itself working its way through, they can be a bit "windy" when first started up and for a day or two afterwards...they do it when you knock the filter or close the door of the cupboard where space is a little crampt too sometimes
