I stumbled across this when buying some fishes from a site that has no pictures and 20 or so species of tetra i didn't recognize (they have some pretty nice one but they are pricey):

The way I tend to evaluate a site like the one you linked is by looking at what they way about Hypancistrus zebra. The were the first pleco I started with to breed. I kept them for about 16 or 17 years and they produced well over 500 offspring. I am still a mod on the zebrapleco.com even though the site is almost inactive. It is owned by the same person who own Planetcatfish.com.

I can tell you this about their info on breeding zebras. It is not very accurate. I can also tell you they are not well suited to a community tank. If you provide them with the sort of aquascape they need, you will almost never see them. But I must also say I am not a bit tetra keeper. I currently have Inpaichthys kerri aka purple emperor. I have kept rummy nose, both Hemigrammus bleheri and Hemigrammus rhodostomus, Finally, I have kept caedinals, Paracheirodon axelrodi, and at one time had 65 of them in my inwall 75 gal. ANd that is ir for me and tertas. So I cannot comment on the info on tetras at Aquadiction

But, when I see what I know is not very good info on zebras, I assume that is going to be the case with some number of other species on a site with info an multiple species..

I think I will stick with Seriouslyfish and Planetcatfish for my info. I also find it easier to navigate both those 2 sites than I did the Aquadiction site. But that is just me. I will say this about their site- they do have pretty good pictures and vids.

Yea i wasn't using it for information on specific fishes rather just for a list of names/pictures and having 149 tetra with many less common ones was nice (for my purpose). I did peak at apistogramma and both the information and list was rather less than exciting. I didn't even bother to read the information about the various species of tetra i just wanted to be able to easily attach names to pictures.

I guess what I am saying is you are evaluating them by the wrong critera (though you have valid critisim). Now if planetcatfish had a page that listed the names of all species of pleco ALONG with their pictures that would be nice ;)

For sure then that site is a big help for what you use it for. But I always feel the need to comment about a new site posted just because there are so many out there and a lot of them are not very good for much.

So I have no problem commenting as I did. I probably should have started my post with the last sentence and then gone into the rest. Sorry about that.

No reason to be sorry truth be in told i never even bothered looking at the profiles (other than apistogramma); I do wish more sites listed prolific species with images in a fashion that doesn't require you to click on each species name - in the case of the tetra what i was doing is looking for something interesting but not my go to specie for a community aquarium and then after finding something appealing doing a deep dive. Of course one thing i learned is that a lot of these less common species are EXPENSIVE. I mean spending $4 a fish for a flock of 25 is bad enough but spending $40 per a fish for a flock of 25.... gets kind of pricey ;)

I use this site often, along with the usual go-tos. I like it overall. Some profiles do seem slightly rushed/needing more info, but I think that's down to them publishing many profiles (over 1100). I found the profiles of the species I keep to be quite accurate. But again, it's all down to personal preference :)
