Hey everyone, Im just after some information about desert gobys. I recently saw them in a not so close fish store and I have yet to get any useful information about them. Here are my questions: (sorry there are so many)

- Are they able to go into a freshwater aquarium?
- Tank mate compatibility?
- Temperature range?
- Anything else that anybody has to share about them.

Thanks in advance,
Torrens

P.S. I hope i posted this in the right section. Sorry for the newbie questions. Dont know anything about gobys

I have found some info on them now. But I'm still haven't found anything about how long they live. Can anybody how long they live and if they breed in captivity? What size tank would a pair need? Sorry for more questions. Thanks again

These gobies -- Chlamydogobius eremius -- are highly adaptable and will survive even in hypersaline conditions. However, hard, alkaline freshwater to low end brackish (SG 1.005) is perhaps optimal given that they aren't really estuarine fishes but freshwater fishes adapted to waters that become heavily mineralised. In terms of care, they are much like other small gobies: territorial, prefer live foods, essentially hardy. This species also eats algae, so provide suitably sized vegetarian foods as well (livebearer flake or algae wafers). Lifespan is 1-2 years.

This goby is featured in my book, along with other Chlamydogobius species native to Australia, thanks to the efforts of Naomi Delventhal and Bruce Hansen.

Cheers, Neale
