Planning for a future small container indoor guppy ( tuxedo koi variety only) pond, but the problem is that my dogs will drink from it. I just need to prevent my two dogs from touching it. How can I prevent them from doing so? I fear that the pond will explode with excess fry. And there are no virgin female guppies in my area. Only normal female guppies. How big must the pond be when it's indoors?

Does it really matter if the dogs take a drink? ;) I would think them trying to catch and eat the fish more of a potential problem. The dogs may also decide to jump in.

As to size my thought would be the same as for a tank. If population would require a 30 gallon tank then the pond would also require 30 gallons.

As to not wanting fry the only way to prevent is to populate only with males.

It does matter, as dog germs would kill the fish.

I had to do a search on that one. Actually the total opposite seems to be true. A dog, or cat, drinking out of an aquarium is harmless to fish but the natural parasites (yes, they are there) and bacteria could, potentially, make a dog or cat ill. While possible this appears to be a low risk.

You could also place the pond higher.

Actually, it won't hurt those fish. I had an indoor pond in my livingroom and had dogs visiting. They drank from it but not a single fish got hurt.
