I recently got a shoal of 6 panda cory (I plan to get more latter). I recall being told some time ago that the black stripes fade when in poor water quality or if they are in a poor enviroment, example: poor substrate, incompatable tankmates. My question for today is this: is this true or just a myth? If it is true then could one effectivley use them as "indicators" of the water quality? I have also heard the same thing about rummie nose tetras, are there any other fish that can be used as indicator fish besides these two?

Indicator fish are not a reliable means of judgeing water quality, it is important to test regularly, remember, for the canary in the coal shaft to work it had to die.
