I had this problem with my 55 gallon that came with sstock lighting and plastic hoods. 1) you can get the dremel out and start getting creative or 2) break out the wallet and get a glass lid and a power compact light. you may be able to solve your entire problem by just getting a glass lid. The glass lid is a folding peice that is entirely clear with 1 seam down the middle. On mine, I have my power compact lighting all of the way up to the font and the part i open is in the back by my equip. you could do this: get a glass lid and set your light in the front section, then get a second flourescent light and set it directly behind that. back to back on the glass lid. this will double your lighting without the need to spend the money for a power compact system. You could use any size light u wanted really, or even use some kid of wall mounted light, goosneck light, night light, or whatever. The point is the glass lid gives you another section of clear open sapce to shine through. in the plsatic lids, the light is centered and space is wasted in the plate in the back and the fli section in the front. check it out. probably can get everything used if you looked a little.
