I've decided to dedicate this post to my cat Lucky. She was a wonderful cat, who loved everyone. I believe she about 16 years old, we had found her in 1992 (I think). She came into our yard as a stray with an injury to her leg. After feeding her a few times, she decided to stay. Over the next few years, she had two litters of kittens. My all black cat, Midnight, is her own son.

A few days ago, during a thunderstorm, my neighbors large dog got loose and was roaming around our yard. I watched it during the thunderstorm, afraid that it might run into the road and get hit by a car (we live on a really busy street.) At one point, I saw my black cat running away from the dog so I became worried that it would go after the cats. As much as I wanted to just go outside and grab that dog, I was afraid because my neighbor used the dog as a watch dog. No one in my family had ever gone up to the dog, and it was a big dog. We tried to look up the phone number of our neighbor, they had moved in 1 or 2 years ago and we didn't talk to them much. Finally, maybe 30 minutes to an hour later, someone from my neighbor's house came over during the storm and chased after the dog. I didn't think twice that anything had happened, I figured Lucky had managed to find some good shelter from the storm. But days passed and we became worried when we didn't see any signs of Lucky.

Finally, today my brother stumbled upon Lucky's dead body on the hill in our backyard. Her position was abnormal as her neck and front part of her body were twisted and at a weird angle. She also had a wound on her body that was filled with maggots. There was no doubt in my mind that our neighbor's dog had killed her. My family was in total shock over the realization that after all these years, someone else's dog had finished Lucky off.

She was such a great cat, she didn't deserve to die that way. I had always assumed that she would die at home, surrounded by her loving family. But life never turns out the way you plan it. R.I.P. Lucky, you were a wonderful addition to our family and we all loved you very very much!

*I was going to upload pictures using photobucket but it seems I can't do that, someone has hacked into photobucket. This is just not my day! I'll upload pictures some other time.

Finally got around to uploading some pictures on photobucket. Here's Lucky:

Here she was last year. She came home one night with a serious injury to her backside. She also had a broken leg. She was such a strong girl for an old cat. Lol as you can tell, she wasn't crazy about getting her picture taken.

Here she was two summers ago:

As much as I try to move on, just now we found my neighbor's damn dog in our yard again. Thankfully, my black cat was safe in my room but I'm sure the dog would go after him too if he had the chance. I was able to scare it out of our yard using my soccer air horn. Next time, we're calling the cops. I'm not going to risk having that dog kill my second cat.

That's a lovely looking cat and a very sad story - sorry for the loss.

Did you let the nieghbors know that their dog killed your cat? I'd be sooo mad!!! I'm so sorry about your cat. My cat Monster was 3 when a coyote got him last year and we live in a major city! We found his body 4 days later a block away on some railroad tracks.

Hope your other kitty stays safe!

Thanks for all the support it really helps. Since yesterday, I've seen my other neighbors going over to complain about the dog getting loose in the neighborhood. Eventually, my mom and I went over to inform the neighbors that their dog had killed our cat. The parents weren't there at the time and around 10:30 last night, the father rang our doorbell. He apologized and offered to buy us a new cat. We were really thankful that he came over and offered to try to fix everything. It put my family's minds to rest a little.

Im sorry for your loss. But I am glad the father came and apologized. Im so scared for my cat, my stepdad*shudders* lets her free roam the street. Shes a big cat, but no match for a large dog..

She lookes like a very loveing cat, Im sorry she had to go so soon.. :rip:
