Illegal Fish List In Australia

I have found much frustration searching aquariums around my area looking for fish and have in my small travels found many fish to be illegal and our esteemed australian members of this forum may have some more knowledge on the subject but here are a few I know are illegal & some I suspect.

Illegal: Bichirs (Gutted at that too), many loaches due to the influx of weather loaches in the darling and murray rivers & dwarf african frogs.

Possibly Illegal: Fresh water rays, many syno's and fancy plec's.


I may think of more but any help would be good as I haven't found any websites with a list of banned fish in Australia.

why not email the relevant gov deptment and ask for the current list of what is allowed?

I'm glad I live in Engerland.

Everyone knows if you put fish in a river here, they'd die of loo poisoning.

Oh you should see the state of our rivers...awful just awful... Australia is having a serious drought and carp have whiped out much of the fish in our rivers. Where I live Victoria's most prominent river the Yarra looks awful as a comedian in Australia said... " It's great you can multi task, have a swim then just go to the toilet!!" ( suitably cleaned up version of that joke).

Raven when you find out what fish are banned. Please post up i'm interested in finding that info out aswell. We are on level 5 water restrictions now Not good. I didnt think the rest of the country was like that aswell.....
