Hello all,
I bought this catfish at a Petsmart. It was sold as a "bumblebee catfish", but doesn't look like any of the ones I've seen on the net.

He's about 3-4 inches long right now and those colors in the pic are pretty close to life.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hmmm, definately not a bumblebee catfish. It looks more like some type of loach/botia to me. Maybe closely related to a chain or yo-yo loach? Whatever he is, he's a cool little fish.

Edit: Wait I just remembered!... could it be a burmese border loach AKA Botia kubotai?

it is a Botia kubotai
Polka Dot loach, Marble Loach, Cloud Botia, Angelicus Loach, Burmese Border Loach

Definitely.

Being all those fish at the same time though, it must have an identity crisis. ;-)

Thanks everyone.

I did some research and it says they only like to be in groups of 3 or more, and I only have one. Should I go back to the LFS and pick up a couple more or is he going to be ok by him self? Is he cool to have with some other bottom feeders (like a rubberlip pleco)?

Also, right now I don't have anything "cave" like, which someone suggested, is that a necessity?

they will be more active and interesting in groups. they *can* survive as loners, but aren't nearly as interesting or healthy.

Thanks, I'll check out 1 or 2 more for my tank (I think I still have lots of room).

Can anyone give any dos/don'ts about loaches and plants? I'm looking at adding a bunch of plants in the near future.
