I have a 3g tank (12"x8"x8") idling around, and i fancy doing something with it, as i have a new desk with some space on it. Anyone have any ideas for it? At the mo, its just the tank and hood, so im also looking at suggestions for equipment for it. Cold or warm water is all fair game.
As its going to be on my desk and its quite small, its easy for me to do frequent water changes, so bare that in mind ;)

Suggest away!

I'd say a betta, some shrimp or perhaps a shoal of some microrasbora, or how about making it a really nice planted tank :)

The hood isnt a spetacular one, so i dont think i could get the lighting for a planted tank. at the moment im looking at using some cold cathode tubes to light it. Googling those microrasbora, they are very pretty fish. I have never hurd of they before though. Are the warm or cold water? What kind of water do they like? feeding?

Any info would me muchly appreciated

How about a snail, African Dwarf Frogs, shrimps, something like that.

If its the 12x8x8" Clearseal aquarium, then I have the exact same thing and used two 4" white cold cathodes for lighting :good: .

I use it as a triops tank, you could keep T.longicaudatus or T.cancriformis in there without a heater, or get a heater and have T.australiensis . Heres my simple T.australiensis set up :) :

that is beautiful, nice and simple. And yes, thats the same size tank as i have. ive had a read about about the microrasbora, and whilst they seem nice, they also seem like they might be a tad difficult to get hold of.

Now, the adf i do like the idea of. Would 3g be big enough for 1 though?

You could keep two probably. I used to have 3 or 4 in a 10gallon and they were happy. Just be sure they have a cave or something to hide in. :good:

Awsome! are they social, or do they prefer to be alone? do the tend to fight at all?

All About Frogs Check out that site, it has some helpful information. As for the frogs fighting I have never had that happen! The only thing you might see is them trying to mate, which is not fighting but may look like it.

Also do a google search you'll find some more info on them.

thanks very much for that link, answered alot of questions!

Would an undergravel filter plus one of those air powered filters (see the pic above!) be ok filtration for them? Would a 50w heater be sufficiant?

Anyone know where i can get them!? I live in Derby, Uk now, and i dont know of any lfs's at all near me. is there a reputable online dealer anyone can reccomend?

They don't make that much of a mess, so you could get away with just one of those air powered filters or a sponge filter. You could probably even just use a 25watt as you don't want to accidentaly fry them. However a 50watt would be fine too.

Aquariumfish.net is a good site. However i'm not sure if they ship to the UK or how that all works.

Good Luck :good:
