I'd like to get Boeseman’s Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani) so I'd like some non-critical (if you've got something nasty to say go somewhere else please) advice on whether or not they're suitable for my tank and if so, how many I need to get.

Tank: 90lt planted - approx 23 gallons
Tank: 10lt

1 Bumble Bee Goby
(go read the pinned topic on Brackish fish before you tell me it shouldn't be in my freshwater tank!)
6 Neon Tetra
4 Guppies - Male
1 Dalmation Molly - Female
1 Neon Dwarf Gourami - Male

My personal opinion is that your tank is too small for them. I had them in a 50 gallon and with their level of activity, felt it was too small for them. Now in a 100 gallon they seem more at ease and relaxed - and not constantly "pacing" back and forth.

I would suggest the Neon Rainbow fish instead (Melanotaenia praecox). Very beautiful and much smaller.

I would agree with Bloo that the tank is too small. A viable alternative would be Praecox Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Praecox ), lovely looking fish and are a dwarf species that only get to around 2.5" :good:

 I edited my post (at the same time as Ferris was writing his) to make a suggestion - instead of just saying they're not suitable.
Not knowing he was going to suggest the same as me.

So good to know I was thinking along the right lines :good:

I woul agree with all of the above. Your tank would be too small for Boeseman’s but there are other ranbows that would suit a smaller tank.

wow, thanks guys, I'll have a look at the dwarf rainbows and see what they're like :)
