ok i had bought on june 20th a topfin 20 gallon kit along with two fire red gouramis. the kit came with enough bio set up to supposedly set up the nitrogen cycle and the next weekend bought 2 silver hatchet fish and 2 ottos (dads idea not mine). but before the fish were added one of my gouramis was not acting normal and noticed white spots. i knew it was ich and decided to raise the temp to 82. it went away and i got the 4 fish. following tuesday i got a dojo loach which i named mojo. then the next day he has this big white spot on his little forhead. and i also did a 25 % water change because the "instant setup" made the ammonia spike up. the next day mojo, the ottos and a hatchet had presence of ich. so we went to the pet store and bought nox-ich, 2nd day we used it both ottos died (suspect starvation) and now i am worried for my fishes life. here are their status

temp: 83 f
ph: 7
ammonia: .02
ying, fire red dwarf gourami- clean
yang, powder blue dwarf gourami-ich, moderate
other fire red died
ottos are dead
mojo, dojo/weather loach- whitespot on head and slight ich
piscis 1, silver hatchet-ich, heavy
piscis 2, silver hatchet- ich, extreme
3 ghost shrimps dubbed the 3 cablleros (sp)-clean

please help i dont want them to die! and one last thing, is this my dads fault? (he got the first 2 gouramis, the ottos and told me not to add more bacteris starter)

Hi

I had this 4-5 years ago

the tank was no cycled property and every time is was adding tap water I got ich.

what is you nitrate reading from tap water?

well I cannot think about anything else you can do apart from making sure that there is enough aeration because of them and med + do a water change before treatment

+ not sure whether med is safe for shrimp

+ i found only protozin by interpret killing ich cycle.

Bart

i can't help much but make sure the medication you are using does not contain a copper base and your weather loach is scaleless so the likelihood of the medication hurting him will be high, check the instructions to make sure and see if you will need to half dose it

other than wait for someone to come along with some advice!

yeah i know the medication says to cut the dose in half for scale less fish like the dojo so it is lowered.

i have another question, should i turn off the light in the aquarium during treat ment and should i feed them or would that be a bad idea?

You added to many fish to soon.

have you increased aeration.
Black the tank out if the whitespot has malachite green.

i know now that i added to many fish too soon, i knew to get 2 fish and then in two weeks get 2 more and so on, but i guess it was really hard for me to resist getting something else

any way the whitespot is just a white spot, how do i know it has malachite green? and i forgot to mention i have about five hornwort strands so would that count as aretion? i also lowered the water level so the filter can break the surface tension alittle. are the dwarf powder blue gouramis more fragile than the dwarf fire red? cuz the red is fine, but the blue looks like he might die today.

hello? anybody there? does anybody know what wilder means by malachite green on the whitespot? there is one big spot on the head, and the little spots which is ich, but is the whitespot ich or something else.

Continue Treatment, but sometimes it doesn't work right away. About a year ago I got a ich infestation
so I bought nox-ich but about 3 days went by with it not working. So I decied to put the filter back on and 1 day
later ich was gone! Sometimes it just takes a while to work... Even if its not ich sometimes the medicine can help other dieseases?

Mojo what wilder means is there are basically 2 types of medications for ich, one contains copper, and the other contains malachite green.
So you have a choice: If you use copper base medication it will most likely kill your loach and shrimp (and half dosing might take a few extra cycles to clear the ich), your second choice is malachite green based ich medication that is known to stain some acrylic aquariums and the silicon in glass aquarium corners.
About 3 month ago my tank had an outbreak of ich and THANKS to Wilders advice it cleared pretty soon. If you have an air pump -> use it, or just lower the water level like you did before so your filter will add a bit of extra air, keep your tank temp at 80F and keep treating for about 10- 14 days.
The only other thing I will suggest is to keep a close eye on your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels and do water changes often if needed, also this might be a good time to invest in good water test kits (like API Master Test kit .. etc).

Hope this helps
Best Regards

malachite green you have to black the tank out as light can interfer with the med.
