Hi

One of my Goldfish has a white spot on its tail. I first noticed it this morning(6hrs ago.)
(update) It now has another one on its tail and this one looks like it has a very thin string hanging off it.

I had an ich outbreak when I first got goldfish last december. and this spot my goldfish currently has looks slightly larger than the ones I remember.

The only thing that has changed in the last 2 months is that I bought a Snail on the 8th of March (almost 3 weeks ago.)

Another thing I thought I might mention is that the fish was originally Orange on top with a white belly nad over the last week to 2 weeks his white parts are turning orange.

Could it be something other than Ich?
Do I medicate now, or wait?
If so, do I use just white spot medication?
or something slightly more generic?

Tank Stats
2 Goldfish
A Large Snail
Some live plants
60L
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 20ppm

Temp was 20C degrees, i turned it upto 22C this morning when I noticed the spot and have now put it at 26C. So if it is Ich, the lifecycle goes quicker.

Please help. I dont want to lose more fish.

How many gallons is the tank.
Your fish dosn't have whitespot.
Whitespot looks like they have been sprinkled in salt, or the spots are the size of a grains of salt.
The spot on the tail how bigs is it, does it have a circling of red around the edges of the spot. or a red centre to the spot.
The string coming out of the spots does it look like cotton or a parasite.

60L = 15.8 Gal

This string thing looked like a thin individual bit of cotton, that has come off a wound up sewing bit.
The spot was the size of a pin head. It was slightly larger than what I remember Ich's size was.

Can you post a picture of cotton? I cant find one.

There was no red.
Question: If it did have red, what would it have been?

Also, I do weekly to week and a half water changes and gravel vac

It is gone this morning. No sign of it. Like it was never there.

Should I do anything about it? Buy some generic meds?if so what should it contain?

Got to say this i'm afraid your tanks overstocked for two goldfish.
Goldfish are massive waste producers so need excellent filters.
The first goldfish alone needs 20 gallons than 10 gallons for every other goldfish added.
So you need a 30 to 40 gallon tank, the filter should be 40 gallon.
If there was red to the spot it mean its bacterial.

The tankts still to small for two goldifsh.
