When i was a kid, my brother had tropical fish tank. I remeber walking in his house and seeing it for the first time and thinking "WOW! what is that." He had lots of silver, and metalic fish and the whole tank was set out in a really typical 1980 fish keeper way (bright gravel, No fishing sign and a castle) and of course he had Neons and an Angel fish (overstocked of course).

Ide forgoten about all that untill last night. I was taking some snaps of my new school of glowlight Tetra and i realised i have come full circle. I have got my self angels and tetras Obviously i know better than to put them in the same tank but it is kinda funny none the less.

From a young age weve always had fish it seems, whether it was goldfish or tropical! So i guess setting up my own tank has always been the obvious! My Dad has kept only tetras really,so i know abit about them with there behaviour! So now im planning to keep other kind of fish ,in a community tank....

Im looking forward to the challenge!

there is lots to know and you cant find out just about anything from here, only problem is there arent many hard and fast rules to fish keeping. Hence you ask a question and you get 2 contradictory answers from two people, and neither of them back down.


My advise is, read what you can and as much as you can. Then use your own comman sense to apply what you think you can make work.

There is a lot of good information on this site. The problem with books is that too many were written back before 1990. At that time, no one had ever heard of fishless cycling and very few people even tested for ammonia, nitrite or other things other than pH. There have been so many advances in the hobby since 1990 that make things a lot easier on us today than people 20 years ago.
