I ordered some plants over the INTERNET and should be getting them soon .

Anyway , does anyone have a recommendation for a safe dip ? :flex:

I don't want to add them right away , I could keep them in a quarantine tank for couple of weeks .

I hate to sound paranoid :hyper: , but who knows what these plants could be harboring , aside from snails . :dunno:

A dip or some kind of rinse makes sense to me , What do you guys and girls do ?

Thanks in advance .

So a 3 to 4 minute dip in a 1 part bleach to 19 parts water is good.

Anyone use the peroxide ? Will it kill parasites ?

I don't know what will happen to the fish because of the peroxide tho.

Me either .

I would dip the plants , and put them in an empty tank for like a week , so the fish won't be exposed .

I have heard of potassium permanganate dip. Can you use peroxide as well?

Well I got them , anyone else have any ideas ?, or a good experience here .

Right now they are in a 10 gal with no fish .

water wistiria , dwarf sag , anubias coffeefolia , cork screw val , and a criptocoryne[ lutea? ].

Would vinegar do anything ?

I have clorox and peroxide , I just don't want to do anything I'll regret .

[ like kill my plants , or add pathogens to an otherwise stable aquarium].

Thanks .

Did you get these plants from a reputable source?

I don't think I'd be dipping them in anything. Especially since they are in quarrentine.

Maybe put a few of your feeders in the 10g with the plants if your paranoid.

The only time I dipped a plant was when I bought a nice Java fern from a tank that looked like it had the start of ich (not a good LFS, but they had a few nice cheap ferns  ). All I did was dip it in one of their saltwater tanks. Other than that, I just rinse them in de-clorinated water and I never had a problem.

I bought them on line [ sight unseen ], I guess I'll keep them were they are for a week or 2 or more , I will have to look and see what I can put in there with them .

with the plants I also got some Malayan snails , we had to treat every tank for nematodes that live in the fishes digestive track ,I think the treatment [ for cattle and sheep ]effectively eliminated my entire subterranean work crew of burrowing snails. Before that treatment we tried Paragon , that killed about 25% of my plants .

We visibly had them in one tank ,and signs of illness in another , but because we use the same nets in all the tanks [ like 12 ] the prudent thing to do was treat them all .

In all the time I've been keeping fish I never had anything like these nematodes

I don't think I'll ever run out of java fern , It's the best [IMO]

:hyper: paranoid , maybe a little

Thanks comet .
