At title states i thought they were the most friendliest community fish to have?

There chasing my guppies about grabbing them in there mouth and swimming around with them in there mouth. The guppies are over a inch in size!

nope aggressive little buggers,

there ok with other semi aggressive community fish or larger cichlids.

Yes they definatly are the most aggressive fish ive ever had.

Ive kept bettas WITH angelfish and all sorts without any problems before. The barbs are the most aggressive towards other fish by far.

All barbs have a tendency towards aggression.

You also don't really have enough; the aggression is reduced if you have a shoal of at least 6, but preferably more.

Are you anywhere near Dorking?

"Nick16" has a group of Gold Barbs, seven I think, in his "everything must go" advert/thread ;)

A 7+ group is far more likely to keep aggression in-house, as the fish will concentrate on how they rank in the group hierachy.

Hes 1 hour away but to be honest, i dont want a shoal of them. Worst case i would part with them so somebody else can have a shoal of them.

Can you mix cherry barb with gold barb? Would they mingle together or not?

You can keep cherry and gold barbs together, but I doubt very much if they would shoal together, tbh.

I had tiger barbs and they bullied my red tail shark to death (along with all my tetras, danios and guppies)! Even though there was 6 of them - little buggers!

This put me off barbs so much I have never attempted them since even though they look so lovely at the LFS!

Tiger barbs are probably the worst; I have a shoal of 15; even then I wouldn't try and keep much with them; I've just got a clown plec and some zebra loach with mine.

If you google gold barb or cherry barb..ect all sites say there not aggressive at all. ( i know tiger barbs are slightly diff in temperment)

You really really cannot take what you read on other fish sites. Normally is a load of crap. I only take advice on here from now on.

I was wondering could my tank even take 10 gold barbs along with the other fish you see in my sig? i think it would be overstocked or on its limit at least?.... anyone coment on this?

What dimensions are your tank and what filtration do you currently have?

Judging by tank size, then it could work...

But we need a comprehansive list of all the current fish in that tank (eg. your guppies are not mentioned in your sig)

I`m sorry to hear that yours are being aggressive towards each other but I`m actually quite shocked to hear they`re aggressive! I was thinking of getting Gold barbs.....glad I didn`t now :hyper:

I have Cherry barbs and have had absolutely no bother with them at all, unfortunately the Siamese Algae eater in my tank took a liking to their tails and after 2 had died and I saw the sae chomping at the tails I returned him to my lfs. I have only 4 left but there`s no aggression between them, they`re really peaceful.

Just goes to show that you learn something new every day

Guppies are quarantined in a 18" tank along with a crab and a rummy nose. So what you see in my sig is what is in my main tank.

My other half doesnt like gold barbs so i doubt i would go for a shoal of them. Think i will stick them in the 18" tank and put my guppies(or whats left of them, seen as the barbs killed 3 of them) in my main tank.

However with the barbs out the question for now.. I would like 1 more shoal of fish but im not sure what... I like dwarf gouramis but ive not successfully kept any longer than 2 months, they die off with disease. Any colourful recommendations?
