Hi, i've got 30 6month old plattys, one adult platty and a black molly. I'm treating the tank for white spot which i can't get rid of and have just seen one of the 6 month old fry with cotton mouth. I've been treating the tank for months but still wont go. I've lost 7 adult plattys in the last month. I've tryed my best to look after them but enough is enough. Is there anyone out there who can take them on?

Kind Regards, Richard

Well i cant take them but i can give you some advice. You should try lots of waterchanges. Also look into getting some protozin. Its very good. ITs only a 2 or 3 treatment med. Look around the pet shops and see if you get some to take a few babies. If you are anywhere neer lewisham SE london then a shop called 'Supreme animal foods' will take some babies if you clear up the white spot and the cotton mouth.

All the best
Sean

Hi, i've been using Interpet whitespot treatment but can't get rid of it. I bought some Pimafix for the cotton mouth and that didnt work. I doubt any fish shops will take on unhealthy fish. I've had my tank for 2 years and still having prolems.

I forgot to mention these tiny white ####ing bugs which have invaded my tank. I gutted out the whole tank and a month later there back!!!!!!!

I'm gonna have a mental breakdown on fish forums...I'm hanging out the window now...save me!!!

little white bugs you say? big white butts and little heads with legs? scurry around the gravel at night and in the mornign some will be floating at the top or maybe stuck in your filter? they are good bugs my friend.. good bugs... -_- but may be sign of over feeding..

Have you raised the temp in the tank.
How long have you been using the whitespot med.
Contact the manufacture and tell them your problems.
You really need to be using a bacterial med with the pimafix for mouth fungus, but not while you are using the whitespot med.

Are u taking the carbon outta your filter when you are treating? I tried everything and Protozin was the only thing that cleared them up for good. Think they became immune to interpets white spot treatment.

dont give up mate, help is out there
try raising the temp - i think it alters the life cycle of the ich parasite which makes it easier to kill off
until recently ich was the only problem i had, got it once treated with protozin and higher temps and it was sorted within a week

I have had two lots of Ich , the first lot were resistant to all treatments and the fish that didn't die i had to put to sleep, and then nuke the tank.
The second lot went very quickly with Protozin. I raised the Temp to 80 degrees and turned the lights off completly untill the spots had gone.

Hi, i've had the temp at 81 for months and ich is still not gone. The bottle is nearly run out so i'll buy some of that protozin and see if that works. I've been treating the tank for a month now. The whitespot is not really that bad and is only on a couple of the fish's back fins and thats the worst it gets. I've lost 7 fish to secondary infections (cotton mouth) and soon one more to add to the list.

I've been using Interpet anti whitespot every 4 days with a 25% water change in between for a month and still no joy. I can't see a expiry date on the bottle which is weird

Kind Regards, Richard

I've been battling with whitespot on and off for a year and it's got to the point were i've given up

i don't know about interpet, but the meds i use says to treat for one week, and then if it hasn't gone away, to treat for a second week, but not to treat after that second week. It sounds to me like perhaps you have gotten, or created, a strain of ich that was largely resistant to interpet. Definately time for something new

Hi, i just bought some AQUA SAFE 100ml (half) and PROTOZIN WATER TREATMENT + he chucked in a KING BRITISH BOTTLE OF WHITE SPOT CONROL. He said they were bought on the 26 march 2006 but have no expiry dates, so hopefully they will be ok.

It only cost £4 from ebay and since i'm broke it was a good deal

Thuggerz,

Sorry to hear you are having problems. Frustrating isn't it.... :(

Silly question, but I take it your water stats are ok? I expect a healthy environment would promote the ability for the fish to recover quicker. Please don't take offence to the question.. i just thought i would ask.

I had all sorts of problems with my tank at one point, and i just couldn't figure out why i had minor issues with the water quality now and then. I was doing all of the tank maintenance, and was still having issues. Eventually i went out and bought a a better filter (swapped the juwel internal for an eheim external) and this helped the stats remain more consistent, and has resulted in less issues for the fish.

Cheers
Squid

An incredibly good white spot control is King British WS3. Be careful not to overdose if you use it though, as it's extremely concentrated.
