At first glance I would say Aplocheilus lineatus. (Normal form) & I think it's the female you have there in the pic due to the spot on the dorsal fin. The more common variety that you would find in your LFS these days would be Golden Wonders, same species different colour morph. I have always stressed on this forum to be careful what you mix these fish with. They can grow quite large under the right conditions and can easily get to 90mm or more in the domestic aquarium. They have a cavernous mouth which can gobble up smaller species of fish such as neon tetra, it's not the fishes fault they are predatory by nature therefore the owner should be aware of that fact when maintaining the species. To sum up they are a beautiful species under correct lighting they are stunning but beware of their predatory nature. They are a very easy species to maintain and breed.
I hope this was of some help to you

Thank you, it was very helpful. And about size, don't be to stressed - at almost 5 cm, 'she' is in a 20 gallon tank right now but as 'she' grows I can move her into my 60, then my 80, and finally into my 180. If 'she' outgrows that, then I have some thinking to do...

About tankmates; right now 'she' is in with two 10 cm tire track eels, a 6 cm golden zebra loach, a 8 cm flach pleco, and a 7 cm S. American leaf fish. when she begins to approach a threatening size for the tank (probably near 12 cm), I can move her into my 60 - which is housing four 17 cm bichirs and two 12 cm synodontis cats (multipuncatus - sorry if spelt wrong). Then 'she' can go to my 80 with my 25 cm tire track eel, 17 cm albino bichir, 30 cm clown knife, and 15 cm ornate bichir. If it comes down to it, next would be my 180 along with my 27 cm (disk) motoro ray and my 25 cm African tiger fish (yah, I hope we don't have to see how that goes...).

I have a few predatory fish of my own, so I am more than ready to deal with another "predatory natured" fish. Don't get too stressed.

Dont count on it even outgrowing the 20 gal. Nice fish by the way. Oh and just a note to BigC I knew it was an A. lineatus at first glance :)
