i heard this many yeas ago... 5 ml per gallon...

There have been many threads about this practice - this being one of them - if you do a search you'll find plenty more

Just stick to the bottle of ammonia !

Human urine is also not quite the same as fish urine in that it is basically like two ammonia molecules joined together by a carbon and an oxygen. I wonder if it takes another bacteria to break this down to ammonia or if it will spontainiously breakdown somehow in the water. I doubt the latter as urea is disolved in water in your pee.
