man ...i do my weekly changes...n recently i did a 50% water change....hooked up another filter

bought a bubbler.....and damn man its still merky

should i get some crystal clear stuff?

i never had cloudy water problems till put this slate n petrified wood #### in there but i dont think that really is the problem

cus when i put that in i washed it off good but i moved around the bottom a bit so it got a lil merky...grrrrr

HELLPPP I JUST GOT SOME NEW CHARCOAL IN MY NEW FILTER MAN...

i just need to ask is a 'bubbler' an airpump? i don't see how that would help the water if it is.

what colour is the water? or is it just dirty. if it's brown murky water it's most likely the wood, i boiled my wood in 5 changes of water and left for another 5 days changing the water everyday, until i thought it would be ok, but it still took a 100% waterchange to truely get the water clean.

charcoal, which i have never used, am going on carbon if it works the same, just removes chemicals doesn't take out fine particles etc.

keep doing water changes, it will get there eventually, or take the wood out and try the tank for a while and try a few water changes see if it makes a difference with it not in there.

:good:

the char coal [carbon] should help to clear the water if your using the right amount. How long has it been murky? Sometimes a tank takes a while just to settle :)

This is probably your problem.....man..

Did you properly clean and rinse the carbon/charcoal before you stuck it in your filter?

If not then the dust from the carbon is probably what is making the water murky at the moment...man..

I would take the carbon out of your filter, give it a damn good clean and then do another 50% water change before you put it back in the filter...man..

You should find that your water clears up after this...man.. :D

yea i washed the carbon out very good...

i put the washed the wood with steaming hot water for about 20 min

should i take it out again n wash it

would it be safe to do another 50% water change if i just did one yesterday?

imma let it settle... for a few more days see what happens

its a lil cloudy but not really crispy n if i look the the tank longways...i can barely see the other side...

im bout to maybe do another little water change n see if it clears up a little...

you guys actually think i put stuff in my tank such as carbon dust in the bag without rinsing it?

im not that stupid...

ITS CLOUDY... NOT DUSTY

well you put something in there, tested for ammonia recently? ammonia spikes can cause cloudly water.

:good:

are you sure it isn't a bacteria or algae bloom?

As for the water change, i wouldn't suggest doing a 50%, especially on top of a newly cleaned filter and a previous 50%. Sounds like a good way to cause a mini cycle in the tank. But, if you check your stats and the tank doesn't seem to be cycling, and large water changes do nothing, it sure SOUNDS like you have bacteria growing in the water.

would help alot if described the cloudyness more.

what colour is it for starters?

id turn the air pump off too. if you want something to settle then its no good striring it up with bubbles.

best advice yet

i turned the air pump off...

when i dump the water out it looks like it has a greenish tint to it..

there is a pick...u can see the cloudyness =*( HELLPPP

its green when i dumped the 50% of the water out...not sure when i put it back in..

so turning the bubbler off was a good idea?

Your not suppost to wash the wood, you have to soak it. It may take a few weeks, even months. But its probably not the wood if the water has a greenish tinge, the water would be brown.
I used this stuff called Accu-Clear by API. It cleared up my water overnight, the water was cloudy because of sand.
