Picked up a 35 gallon tank from craigslist.  The center strap is broken.  It seems so flimsy, I can't imagine it did much in holding the tank together?  I know it is supposed to hold the front and back together when the water is in it.

How would you fix this?

Or can it be used as is?

Correction - the CL ad said it is 35  gallons.  Since is measures 30 x 12 x 22, seems it is a 37!

I'd epoxy glue and clamp a couple of layers of Perspex both top and bottom, to sandwich the remaining section of the brace

Clamp I have.  Epoxy glue I know what that is and where to buy it.

What is Perspex please?  I eralize you are not in US, would I find it at Home Depot, a DIY store, or do I need to go somewhere special?

I AM going to go Google perspex now, so I may find it is easy to locate.  Just never had to deal with it before.

OK found it!  All set, thanks!

Sorry, Plexiglas!

May get away without doing any repair work at all but I'm pretty sure that if the manufacturer has gone to the trouble and expense of including a brace that it's there for a purpose!

Ah Plexiglas will be lots less money!  LOL AND I have a piece down cellar!~

Thanks again.

how wide is the tank--my 29 gallon rectangular is 30 inch wide and has no center brace and is fine

Mine broke in my 55 gallon (which I sadly had to sell) last year so I repaired it with wooden dowels and some super glue. Only part of the brace broke off, so I was able to use these sort of materials to bridge the gap, so to speak. It worked really well and only cost me a few dollars. However, this was a much smaller section that what you've got, so I'd definitely do the plexiglass method as mentioned earlier.

My 50 gallon is 36 inches wide with no center brace.  It is an old tank, and THICK glass.

This tank is glass, not acrylic, but it is very thin glass.  Since the repair seems doable, I'll give it a try.

Also, got a question for you.  Your siggy says you have a 35 gallon.  Which is what the craigslist ad said this one is.  But when I look at the various tank dimensions charts, there is NO 35 gallon listed! The measurements on this one match the 37 gallon.  I'm curious what your tank dimensions are?

my second tank is a 35 gallon tall hex tank----24 inches tall

Ah, doesn't relate being a hex shape.  Thanks.
