How To Swap From Gravel To Play Sand?

thanks to everyones help iv decided argos play sand is the one for me but i read somewhere on the internet that you didnt have to remove the fish from the tank to swap from gravel to sand and was wondering if anyone has done this and can give me any advice please on how to do it thanks
