I've been told multiple times that the gravel in my tank is too bright/light and that it may irritate my fish.

First---What do you think of the gravel and/or tank?

Second---How do I change the gravel without bothering the fish, etc.,?

Third---What color gravel would look nice?

I think it looks nice. If you like it then that's all that matters.

Personally, since you asked, I like black gravel. I think it really brings out the colors in fish.

Whenever I would change the gravel, I would do a gravel vac, then start taking all the gravel out with a large plastic cup, wash the new gravel and slowly add it in.

There's nothing wrong with the gravel. Keep in mind that over the course of several months, minerals, brown algae, fish poop, decaying matter and whatever else is in the water will stain your substrate several shades darker. The tank looks new...how long has it been set up?

I think it looks really nice :D I've also heard that whole thing about fish not liking the bright bright colors, but think that might just be the person's personal pref.... *shrugs*

id go for a more natural colour of gravel something that would be found in nature it wont reflect light and your fish will look better for it :good:

The tanks been set up for two months and i've had my fish for about three weeks. The gravel has already started to turn a light brown (which I don't like) so I don't think i'll have to worry about the brightness for long.
