I've temporarily overstocked my 64L tank while my other tank gets overhauled.

9 adult female platies, average 2 inches length each
11 threadfin rainbowfish
5 Amano shrimp

The tank is mature and heavily planted.
If this was permanent, how overstocked would you rate it?

Thinking long-term, a 64 litre (16 gallons) will house the threadfins nicely, with shrimp.  The platies need much more space than this, again long-term, so presumably they will be moved to the new quarters.

Byron.

I'd say its roughly doubled stocked, but as a temporary solution it can work...  But, I'd increase the frequency of the water changes, and the volume during the temporary holding... but this beats an uncycled 5 gallon bucket.

Only thing wrong with it really are the platies, take those out and you're bingo.
So I'd say roughly 70% overstocked. :p

Cheers all. This tank has historically been home to my platies but I'm open to the idea of swapping my stocking around. The other tank has twice the capacity but both of them are only 2ft length - I don't have room for a longer tank. Platies were recommended for my 64 litre when I got them.

Good suggestion Eagle, I'll give them a water change every couple of days. The situation is likely to last about 3-4 weeks while my new tank settles.
