Hello,
I cleaned my tank on Thursday the 3rd. That was exactly one week ago. On Monday I fed my fish shrimp pellets and ever since then my tank has been absolutely gross! Usually my tank is pretty clean for like 1 week, and then I change the water, but it's like really gross. Is it because I added shrimp pellets? or are electric blue gouramis that dirty ? How often are you supposed to clean your fish tank?

Shrimp pellets do it. They're horrible. Toss them and find another food.

I do about 50% water change once a week.

I do anywhere from 30-50% per week per tank. I won't lie though, sometimes I stretch it to 2 weeks if I'm too busy. In those rare cases I change more like 60-75% and vacuum a bit than usual.

I use 2 different brands of shrimp pellets, one that sinks right away & the other floast for a bit than sinks eventually. My Corys, Rams, Gouramis, Tetras, Barbs, etc. all nibble at them. Even the BN's and the Snails.

I prefer the instant sinking ones because I can aim them for the front of the tank which is open so I can clean it easier. I only put 3 or 4 in at a time regardless of which type I use. The instant sinking ones are called "Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Aquarian Bottom Feeder Shrimp Pellets" shown here:

Get a bran that sinks fast and disolves slow. I used to have those and they did AMAZING the new brand is AWFUL! They sink fast and in 5 minutes they are in the gravel :shout:

Thanks everybody for your responses. I think I will throw these ones out and grab a different kind. also, I think I found the main problem.. I had the filter in backwards.. I'm guessing that it is a big deal since it actually says FRONT on the front side.. oops.. But, I did a 1/3 water change and washed the filter out, and it seems to be much much cleaner.. Thanks for the help.

Agreed, that would seem to be overkill.
