I know this has been asked about a thousand times ;) but I was just wondering how much/often to feed my four new panda cories? They're 2-3cm each at the moment, I'd like to give them sufficient food for them to grow big and healthy without overfeeding them.

I have hikari sinking wafers which are about 5mm diameter, thus far they've been getting a couple a day and they disappear really quickly. (the wafers, not the fish...). I've got frozen bloodworms and blackworms too but they don't seem to like them.

Any opinions?

My cories really eat anything that is hanging around.
crazy little guys
They like to dig in the sand and find just about anything. Mine eat from Bloodworms, algae wafers, sinking shrimp pelllets, sunk fish flakes, little shrimpies, anything. Maybe they don't like the blood worms? I don't like onions.
That is just my thoughts! :D

I tend to stuff my fish to the gills* when I first get them to make sure they get off to a good start and whilst doing that you can get an idea of how much they want to eat and how much food is too much for them!

I've just got 2 new C. Sterbai and I'm feeding them twice a day, once with everyone else with the lights on and then a bigger feed later on with the lights off so they have something to nibble on through the night.

(*somebody will probably say their stomachs will burst or something but it works for me).

Hi clutterydrawer :)

Hikari sinking wafers are excellent food for corys. They are nutritious and have the added advantage of holding together until the corys have a chance to eat them.

As long as the food is not laying in the tank uneaten for extended periods of time, give them a little more. If they are young and still growing they should get plenty of good quality, high in protien, food.

I'm surprised they do not like the frozen worms you gave them. Perhaps it would be a good idea to try live blackworms or tubifex worms. Most corys go crazy over them! You could also give them freeze dried tubifex by holding the cube under the water until it gets soaked and then rubbing it gently until the worms separate and sink. You might need to turn your filter down or off for a few minutes while doing this so they float to the bottom.

Heya :)

Unfortunately the only live foods I can get are bloodworms and daphnia - I was feedinf the tetras live bloodworm the other day and one floated past a cory, but it either wasn't interested or couldn't catch it. I'll try and get hold of some freeze dried tubifex though!

thank you all for your replies :)

Hi clutterydrawer :)

I am not able to speak of bloodworms because they are not available here, but the tubifex an blackworms I can get will often escape and live in the gravel for awhile. When that happens it's not problem since the corys will find them and pull them out. You might want to ask others to see if it's safe to let the bloodworms do that too. :D
