once a day? twice a day? 2-3 times a week? I've heard many different versions.
A friend has one and she feeds 3 pieces of betta bites twice a day, so 6 a day. Thats what I have been doing with Nemo, with one fasting day a week. He is a little pig now, scarfing down each piece I give him. Some sites say as much as they can eat in a couple of minutes, I think Nemo could really pig out in that much time!

I think I overfeed, but ya know what...my fish are outstandingly healthy so, I guess it's ok. Bettas like to eat more than anything

Mine don't fast, they get about 12 baby bite Hikari gold each morning, once a week they get frozen at night in addition to the pellets they had for breakfast. Then once a week they get no pellets, only frozen, twice that day.

It's amazing to watch them flourish with good food. When I purchase female bettas they're usually very, very tiny. So small that they look like they could get lost in their one gallon tanks  ,after being here for a few months they're 3X the original size, some of my girls are bigger than the boys

My little guy gets 3-4 little Hikaro Gold balls in the morning.

In the evening, he gets either 5-6 more BBs, 5-6 freeze-dried bloodworms, or a melted batch of frozen ones, which he absolutely loves. The evening feeding is often spread out over several hours.

I hope I'm not giving him too much, but it's not often that anything has a chance to hit the bottom!

6 bettabites sounds about right. They have fast metabolisms, so you should feed them small amounts frequently. Also try live or frozen foods to enhance their color. Paprika is said to help, but how do you use it?

Ok! So 6 is ok, but more might be fine too. I won't be so worried about how much he eats. I will also pick up some other foods for him to try.
Thanks!

Mine get fed 3 times a day. When they get Betta Bites they get 6 pellets total, when they get bloodworms they get 4 for the day and Bio Blend pellets they get 4 a day. At first I was overfeeding, giving large infrequent meals, but I've found this is what works best. For a while one of my bettas kept spitting out his food, I realized he wasn't hungry and was just playing with his food. I cut down portions and he stopped doing that :)

My betta is in a community, with  feeder golfish and a platy so it's impossible to tell what he actually gets to in time (those little piggies) but I feed twice a day, morning, and mid afternoon, in the morning 6-8 pellets of wardleys betta food, a pinch of bettamin flakes and dried brine shrimp, and a bigger pinch of goldfish flakes, in the evening 1 cube frozen bloodworms...but you know, he doesn't seem to thrilled about the frozen, I thought they were supposed to love them?? They usually get eaten off of the bottom by my goldies..? Mybe I should put the lil feller in his own tank... :dunno:

Hey there,
I have two bettas one is at work and one is at home. They are both helathy and happy and the one at home has lived for 3 years now.

The one at work (Stevie) Gets Pinches of betta mini bites about every two hours, then because he is at work, he fasts through the weekend. He is a little pig though has gotten alot more plumb since i bought him at the petstore about 7 months ago.

The one at home, gets brine shrimp which come in individual gel packs. I really like feeding this food to them because it is more nutrious and not as messy as frozen and (pearlie) doesn't like the freeze dried kind.

Well apparently my fish are starving compared to others

Mine gets about about 3 little pellets, or a couple of blood worms a day. Fish are cold blooded, they do not use energy to warm their bodies and really don't need much food, and pellets are a very condensed form of nutrition. Feeding less also helps keep the tank cleaner. While it applies only to more serious cases of it, overfeeding can lead to health problems as well. I would venture to say that about 99% of fish owners overfeed, though his number is not actually based on any real stats.

Hmmm...

This is true, but really...it doesn't fly with me. Cleaning tanks is part of keeping fish.

I'm with you!

...my bettas get maybe 3 or 4 pellets a day...that's it! They don't like bloodworms so they get none of those.

Yeah, and I defenitely appreciate that it keeps my bowls cleaner. :D

I feed mine 5 pellets every other day and 1 pellet on the other days. One random day once a week fasting. Freeze-dried brine shrimp once a week.

Yea i overfeed but i don't have any bettas but i'm thinking of getting one. Those fish come over to me when i look at them from a corner they go to the corner like i overfeed them. I feed them 3 times a day and use a small sample scoop spoon and fill about 1/4 of the spoon with flakes.

I feed my bettas different amounts everyday, because fish are in a way like birds, they eat and then poop it out rather quickly, I feed them small amounts throughout the day. Usually a mixture of 2-3 betta gold pellets and 2 bloodworms in the morning and 2 pellets with a bit of betta flakes at night. all my bettas seem to like the freeze dried bloodworms, so they get alot of those. :D
