In a 120 litre planted aquarium would there be enough nitrates by keeping just Amano Shrimps?

How many Amano Shrimps in sush an aquarium would not starve to death but also provide a good balance in nitrate levels?

Always assuming that there are no plants in the aquarium that Amano Shrimps especialy like!

sorry had to ask - Why no fish?

dont know the answer to your question exactly but i'd guess you could keep 40/50 or so but nitrate would never really get high enough. they dont produce much waste at all.

No fish because I am a student in another country and there is no-one to take care of the tank....so I keep it into an automated minimum requirement aquarium.....so I wondered if with some fish I could create a "symbiotic" environment where the shrimp would keep the plants alive with their nitrates and vice versa.........

you could throw in a few otto's. if the tank is planted they'll live off the algae (theres always some no matter how good the tank is). 4 would be fine and happily survive without feeding so long as you have enough plants.

when we bouth our Amanos to deal with some of the algea in our planted tank (with fish) we were advised to go for at least 6 per 100l to see a difference...

We got 13 for our 180l and they made a bit of a difference but in all honesty - I'd at least double that.

say 30-40 in your 120l

Do GHOST shrimps eat hair algae?

Does anyone know how to breed them?
