I plan to upgrade my current 15 Gallon tank to a larger 250 litre tank and I was wondering how many fish I could get in there. For example how many Glass Catfiah could I fit in there? Or what would be the largest fish I could comfortablely keep in shoals? Also which are compatable and can live together?

glass catfish you could keep a decent 14ish shoal depending on tankmates.maybe you could say what fish your intrested in so we can find out if there compatible or not.

By tankmates i mean would they be compatable with fish like red rainbows, bosemani rainbows, bettas, corys, platies, mollies etc?

I wouldn't set any stall by that chart; it's far too generic.

Just looking at barbs, there are so many different species, of such differing sizes and temperaments, that that chart would be useless.

OP; is your water hard or soft, and are there any species of fish you particularly want?

well what i meant was that would be the starting point and if they werent sure they would ask.

Well I would be looking at getting a shoal of glass cats but are there are fish that could live with them ie a single gourami, betta, and what can silver sharks live with?

defintaly not a silver shark! i wouldnt keep em with a betta because the cats are nippers from what i hear, i think the gourami could be fine depending on the type of course.

So could large cory cats be kept in a tank such as that with gouramis etc!

Glass catfish aren't in the least bit nippy, IME.

They are very peaceful :)

They do prefer soft water though, whereas most rainbowfish like harder waters. I keep mine with cories, green neon tetras and marbled hatchetfish.

So how many marbled hatchetfish could I fit comfortablely in a shoal?
Also how long would my tank have to be up and running ie I know that neons need a tank that has to mature for at least 6 months plus, so are hatchetfish the same or different?

Is your water hard or soft though?

I don't want to be recommending species that like soft water if you have hard!

well then weve had different expereinces because the glass catfish i had often nipped the longfinned fish id with bthem IE betttas, fancy guppies

Oh well, I don't keep bettas or guppies, so I wouldn't have noticed those tendencies!

I will say I am surprised though, it's not something I'd imagine them doing!
