Ughh... so I changed over my tank from black gravel to sand, and now I'm realizing that I didn't wash the sand out well enough (see pic bellow). My tank's a big cloudy mess so I've decided to do water changes on it, I've done a 30% change yesterday, a 50% yesterday aswell and now I'm going to drain the tank down to about 10 gallons of water left... How long does it usually take for the tank to clear up??

Original pic... (cloudy, before the 50% change)

my buddy just did that but i don't think his was as bad but it still took his 2-3days urs might take a week, that means don't touch it or disturbed it just leave it alone so the sand can settle IMO

Well, I just did a huge water change, and I added my ornaments too, so hopfully all will be well in the tank by wednesday as I have a christmas party on Saturday and my parents want my big blue storage bin that's housing my fish out of the bathroom and back into storage :p

It's not as bad now as it was there, but still pretty bad :(

Hey, will my fish be alright in this cloudy mess???

Here's updated pics...

What you're doing is washing the sand in the tank, and that's going to take awhile. If you just let the silt settle, it will get stirred up when anything disturbs it. It's going to have to eventually be pulled out by the filters. If it were my tank, I would take the sand out, wash it properly, and then return it.

lol, well the pics that I posted were of this afternoon, and as of now (11:33pm) the tank has cleared up ALOT more :D

Well I added the fish last night after the tank was much clearer, and they're all fine this morning, I also added another Angel and the 8 red minor (seprea) tetras.

wow what a nice aquarium HEHEHE

let the sand settle. and btw will this not mess up the filter as it sucking in all the particles?

stop doing water changes, it's just kicking it back up... just be patient for 3-4 days and if it's no different then either wait a lil longer or do a water change
