Just a quick one, was wondering how long people leave feeding their fish after they have introduced new stock into their tank. I've read on a couple of posts people leave it a while, others don't just feed as normal.

What do all you guys do.

I would normally feed the fish that are already in the tank while the new fish is being acclimatized in the bag, then I usually don't feed them until the evening (if it is in the morning) or
the next day if it is later on.

Hope that makes sense :good:

I usually buy fish in the afternoon (don't know why, it just happens like that!). I then feed as normal the following morning.

I fast for 24 hours, then feed lightly for the next week, along with dimming the lights for a couple of days.

I feed regualy, and sometimes i will feed after a hour to see what kinda appateite it has. If it eats well it is healthy, and if it dosent eat for the next day, it usually die's.

I usually keep to my routine, also if it eats well i guess it's a healthy fish!!!!

If they act hungry i feed them that evening but if they are taking a bit of time settling in i leave them alone and dont feed them until the next day.

thats what i do too

New fish can easily be frightned by the "feeding frenzy" the resident fish have - so it is usually best to leave it until they start settling in (usually the next day depending on what time the new fish are added).

I usually don't feed until the next day. It doesn't do the fish any harm and it saves excess stress on the filter. :good:

Same here. It just depends on the fish, IME African Cichlids (well, mbuna anyways) have voracious appetites and will eat within an hour or two of introduction, even when shipped. Most of my "standard" community fish are a bit pickier.

What i have always doen is, when i get the fish home, i place the bag on the water for tem minutes, then i get a bowl and poor the water and the fish in to it and place the bowl on the surface of the water, i then give the new fish a bit of food to see how it reacts to it, then i add a bit of the tank water the bowl, wait 2 minutes, then add some more. Then finally slowly poor it all bk in to the tank along with the fish, Nether had a new fish die on me yet in the first month (touched my head and some wood).

I then feed all the fish as normal next day.
