how long can you safely use Melafix?

I have been using Melafix for about 2 weeks off and on. I t has helped one of my fish but his sore isnt completely healed. I would like to continue it since my angel seems to be missing a big portion of his dorsal fin. How long can I use it for? I would like to wait before deciding to treat with Maracyn, can they be used together? and is Maracyn safe for clown loaches? If I need to take the Melafix out, how long should I leave the carbon in for? Thanks Leah
