Im off on hols soon and would like to know how long you can safely leave fis unattended for?

I can get someone to come feed them that knows one or two things about fish but on a short hol im taking it its not needed.....

Thats all i did :good:

Just got back from hols for a week and everything is rosy.

Water change just before leaving and the normal feed and off you go.

I also left the lights off for the duration (Just natural light) and the slight algae problem I had has gone.

I usually leave a small container of food for my fish to be fed by someone if I'm gone longer than 4-5 days but otherwise you can leave them unattended safely in most cases for over a week or even two depending on the species.

This is what I do if I'm going on vacation. I take one of those weekly pill boxes, the ones that have each day of the week seperately in thier own little snapping container...and I put in a daily allotment of food in each. Then, whomever comes over to feed them knows only to feed them what is in that day's capsule.

Makes overfeeding pretty difficult, since they only have seven days worth of food to feed the fish for...yep, seven days.

I wouldn't do it longer then a week though, the food might get stale.

I've heard of community tanks being left for 6 weeks with no food or water changes! The water dosen't get too bad either because the fish aren't producing anywhere near as much waste.

I'm on vacation right now and I'll be back Saturday! I have a tankful of fry, lights on timer, and I left them alone due to the fact I have copepods and nematodes. Biological autofeeder.
