I have a 50g with 2 angels and a couple other other fish, i wanna add a small school of neons but the only problem is the angels might eat them....

The angles are about 4 months old, will they only attack then neons when they are older and big enough to fit in the angels mouth?

Yea, for the most part, if it can't fit in their mouth and they aren't a territorial threat, cichlids will leave most fish alone.

I had a 280g tank with 8 red-belly piranhas ranging in size from 8"-11" and had 70 neons in there for a couple years or so and never lost a one. So it's not always a given.

Hmm. Neons comprise a huge part of the angels' diet in the wild. Once your angels are big enough to snack on the neons, expect them to start disappearing. It might not happen all at once, and it might not start as soon as you expect, but I think unless the tank was outrageously large (Jeff lol), the neons are lunch sooner or later.

There are a number of large cichlids, (and Characins - piranhas for example), that seem to "not bother" with very small fish. My mate Bob had a big Buttikoferi which lived peacfully with some of it's "feeders" for years.

In your case, your Angels are small and getting bigger, they will reach the size where they'll think one day - "hmmm, that blue and red striped flake there is a bit big - but I wonder..."
