I need some information. I put water in my fish tank and it always gets murky. So I see you photos of tanks and I notice your water is always very clear, so how do you do it? Do you use power heads, UV sterelizers, RO Units, chemicals that cleans your water, use distilled water or all of the above. Do plants help this process?

I just take water straight from the spikets (the sink) and put it in my tank. But I'm thinking I'm missing a step.

Is the tank newly set up? When you add water, are you adding hot/warm water or cold water? Do you have sand as the subtrate? If you were to pour the water (from the tap) into a glass, is it murky then or just when its in your aquarium?

The tank is a few weeks old (so it hasn't cycled yet). Iu a chemical I got at a lfs, it cleans it up I guess it's a declorinator, I really have no idea. I have white gravel as my substrate. My water from my tap, when I pour it into a glass will look almost white but after a few seconds it clears right up.

Maybe it will get better after it cycles?

Well I hope your using dechlorinator before you put the fish in the tank. Do you have driftwood in your aquarium because I noticed about a month back that one of my tanks were unclear because of the driftwood(Brownish colored water).

Honestly, I have never heard of declorinator. I use a chemical for stress. I never have fish to die so perhaps I don't need it. All I have is a rock in it. I need to get some plants.

My 30 gallon stays clear and I think it's cycled, so I should wait until it is?

Yes, wait until it is cycled. It will save you many fish deaths, money and headaches.

Your water will be clear once it's cycled but I would definitely learn real fast what declor is, see my 2nd sentence in this post as to why.

Seriously though, any fish enthusiast should know and use a dechlorinator, I use AquaSafe. That is probably what most people use. The chloramines in tap water (sink water) can harm and kill your fish as they breathe in that water). What kind of filter do you have?

A cycling tank usually isn't crystal clear. A mature tank, if properly maintained is. Give it time, you really don't need to add anything to the water of a mature tank except a good water treatment like Aquasafe or Prime.
