I want to have a tank large enough one day (maybe in a year or 2) for the following stock:

1 oscar
1 j. dempsey
5-6 silver dollars
maybe a few green terrors
5-6 loaches (not sure what kind will work)

What size tank would you recommend for this stocking? Or would you suggest a little different stocking (using any of the fish in this list)?
Thanks!

you would need quite a large tank. Your oscar is going to get fairly large. Green terrors and the dempsey also get quite large. I would suggest like 70gallons +. this is of course if you want them to be comfertable and live a happy life, which hopefully is something you have in mind ;)

Jack dempsey and green terrors are really aggressive fish, they're gonna kill everything in the tank in a less than an hour. You can't have those in one tank. :(

I agree, this isn't really a good mix. Decide which large cichlid you want to keep and then look for what may be compatable with it.

70?

i think you need more like 125 gallons +.

and thats if you could give GT's a chill pill.

So what about 1 oscar, 1 JD, a group of silver dollars (5-7) and a group of clown loaches? Would those work together? If so, you think a 100 gal tank would do, or would I need to go larger?
This will be a huge investment for someone with my income, that's why I'm trying to get all the info I need so I can start saving, KWIM?
TIA!

To make living conditions comfortable, and agression to a minimum, I would say no less than a 140g.

The loaches would one day be too big for the 75g but that's a long way off.

I don't think a 75g is big enough for an oscar with tankmates? I'm unsure though.

:good:
