Hoovering Without Sucking Sand Up!

Hi can anyone give me an idea to clean the bottom of my tank? There is an amount of poo etc to remove and I have sand substrate. My cleaner is a suction hose type with an open end. Is there any way of getting right into the gravel to get the gunge out without the sand all being sucked up too?

Had thouht about putting tights over end of hose but wondered if poo would go through that?

You just have to kind of swirl the hose around the top of the sand gently. It often takes some practice to get it right with not sucking any sand up. You could also try using a fish net to scoop up the poo.
