Hi,
I've had my cories (5) for a few days now and they do not go after there sinking wafers  The wafer can be right in front of their noses and they ignore it? I stopped putting whole wafers in just broke them in pieces because I don't want to pollute my tank.

They live w/tiger barbs and no matter what time I put the wafer in the tigers pounce on it.
It could be 2am the tank is dark, and bang....as soon as the water hits the water they are eating it.

Are my cories going to starve!!? :(

If you are really worried you can try feeding something else. Mine always go for the flakes that drift down and they aslo eat the bloodworms and brine shrimp (frozen) that I put in. Once in a while they will go up to the top and try to eat up there too. Mine DO eat wafers sometimes, but I dont put them in often. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!

Come to think of it when I feed the flakes to my other fish, they do get very active and start searching for food.

So I will just feed them the way I feed all the other fish and hope for the best.

I have frozen blood worms and brine shrimp so I will give that a try as well.

Again, thanks :)

I feed my corys on a mix of catfish pellets, bloodworm and normal flakes. I have also fed them tuna, haddock, and smoked salmon.

Were the wafers you fed them pleco wafers? Pleco wafers are plant based and corys prefer animal based foods, in the wild they tend to eat small invertabrates. Maybe thats why they didnt like them, or maybe the wafers weren't broken up enough for them to eat (they only have tiny mouths after all!).

The wafers are:hikari tropical wafers Are these okay?

I will try breaking them up more...duh!
Dont I feel stupid :*)

Do you break them up in small pieces and spinkle them? Although when my barbs get a hold of the piece of wafer I think they do leave a trail of crumbs

I'm hoping that there will be enough let over for my cories after my barbs get a hold of the tiny pieces.

I've tried the blood worms and shrimp but they don't come up to the top w/my other fish.

I agree with punkfish about cories and inverts. When I had a tank a while ago w/ cories in it i fed them shrimp pellets, talk about a feast.
Try feeding w/ diff types of foods to see what they'll go for
good luck

are you using frozen? cause the frozen will sink. The freeze dried stuff just floats at the top. I feed frozen and mine go for it.

nope I only have freeze dried -_-

I'm trying to release flake food "in" the water also, that way at least they will have a better chance at getting the flakes. :)

i just mix flakes and sinking pellets in a cup of water...let it sit for baout 5-10 minutes and stir every now and then until they absorb enough water and start to sink...then i dump it into the tank and it sinks to the bottom

When I first set up my tank I only had one cory, and he absolutely devoured the first algae wafer chunk I gave him. Next day he totally ignored a new one. After I got the other cory, the duo went to town on a wafer! ... along with the swordtails. I think their tastes change from day to day :p

Hi cherrybarbbaby :)

Is it freeze dried tubiflex worms that you have? These come in cubes and it is possible to get them down to the corys.

To do this, I hold a cube underwater for a minute or two until it softens. Then I rub it gently between my fingers until the worms separate and float freely in the water. The other fish will go for them, but some will settle on the bottom where the corys are.

You may need to turn your filter down or off for the time it takes the worms to sink so that they are not sucked into the filter. :D

I have the tetra freeze dried treats (larvae) but i know the kind you are speaking of
(I've seen them in Petco)
I usually use tweezers to feed my blood worms -I'm such a wimpy girly girl

But for the sake of my cute little cory cats I will do it :)
